The Santa Cruz SPCA appreciates and acknowledges all donations to support its programs and services. Contributions are frequently received in memory of human family and friends as well as animal companions. We are a non-profit charitable organization relying entirely on donations for support of our programs.

Help the SPCA,

Donate Your Car!

Your contributions give the gift of a second chance to animals with life threatening medical conditions or injuries; you help teach children humane values and compassion for all creatures; you give us the opportunity to provide low cost spay neuter services to our community; and much, much more.

PLANNED GIVING

Since its founding in 1934, the Santa Cruz SPCA has received bequests from people who care about animals. Bequests have been vital to the progress of the Santa Cruz Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals from its inception. These special gifts have ranged from small to large sums, but each has added strength to the SPCA by helping to ensure permanence, excellence and independence. The tradition began with our founders and since then, recognizing the SPCA's dependence on philanthropy, many friends have made provisions for the SPCA in their wills.

If you decide to include a gift to the Santa Cruz SPCA in your will, you will have the satisfaction gained from making a commitment which will endure long after your lifetime. You can be secure in the knowledge that your bequest will be carefully administered and constructively used to continue the growth of the SPCA and its ideals.

You may provide for the SPCA by making a new will or by adding a codicil to your present will. To make certain that your exact intentions are carried out, consult your attorney. The wording for a bequest might read:

"I give and bequeath to the Santa Cruz SPCA, a not-for-profit corporation chartered under the laws of the State of California, the sum of $_______________."

OUR PROGRAMS

Currently the SPCA provides a range of services to the community through the following programs:

All of these programs are supported solely through donations.

TAX SAVINGS

Bequests to the Santa Cruz SPCA are deductible from one's taxable estate for Federal Estate Tax purposes, including California. Tax savings can be substantial. A bequest to the SPCA may be in the form of cash, securities, real estate or other property. In addition, you may use your life insurance policy in a number of creative ways to provide tax-deductible assistance to the SPCA. In California, there is no restriction on the amount that may be given to the Santa Cruz SPCA by will.

You may make an unrestricted bequest to the SPCA or you may designate the purpose for which you wish it to be used; for example, some individuals prefer their bequest to be restricted to spay/neuter or our education programs. The bequest may be designated for buildings and building renovation. You may, in fact, designate that your bequest be restricted to any activity at the SPCA which is of special interest or concern to you.

OUR GROWTH

Whatever your preference may be, it must be remembered that the SPCA is not a static institution and the importance of various issues concerning animal welfare may change over time. Bequests providing funds for unrestricted use are particularly important because they allow the SPCA to use the funds where and when the need is greatest. As such, they are essential in order to maintain the overall strength of the SPCA. Therefore, a bequest provision should be drawn as broadly as possible so that the legacy will have enduring usefulness.
