A FEW THINGS TO CONSIDER:

If you currently rent your home, landlord approval must be provided in order to foster an animal. All household members must be in favor of having a foster animal in their home.

Have a flexible schedule, one that will allow for ample play time and potential vet or shelter visits.

An extra room is very helpful. You may need to keep your foster friend/s separate from your own animals, and having an extra room where the animal cannot hide from you (like a bathroom) is crucial for socialization and easy clean up.

ABOUT THE ANIMALS:

We foster animals that are currently not adoptable due to illness, injury, age, or temperament as well as dogs that are too big to stay at the shelter. Providing a foster home for these animals is often the best way to help make them adoptable, and it enables us to rescue more animals that would otherwise be euthanized.

An effective foster home is one in which the animal can stay for the necessary care he or she requires and then be returned to the shelter for adoption. If the dog is being fostered due to it's size, we ask that the foster home be willing to show the dog to potential adopters, and willing to bring it to adopt-a-thons at various locations.

THE WHOLE FAMILY CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE:

Because the foster animal is in your home, you and your family can play a large part in the adoptability of your new friend.

All animals need socialization, and a home environment is the best place for animals to become better trained and accustomed to human contact.
Animals tend to recover from illness and injury much faster when in a home setting.
